Life on Four Locust Farms

Today was one of those perfect farm days that reminds me why we do what we do. Dr. Collins pulled up bright and early for our regular calf health check, and this visit came with an extra-special twist: DNA testing on our heifers!

We’ve been raising these little ones with so much care, and watching them thrive is the best part of every single day. Dr. Collins went through the whole herd with his usual calm expertise—checking weights, listening to lungs, making sure everyone’s bright-eyed and growing strong. But the highlight? Swabbing those heifers for their DNA profiles. We’re beyond excited to get the results back and learn even more about their genetics. It’s like getting a sneak peek into their future potential—health, growth rates, and all the traits that will help them become amazing mama cows one day.

There’s something so reassuring about having a vet like Dr. Collins on our team. These animals are our babies, and knowing they’re in great hands makes all the long hours in the barn worth it. A huge thank-you to Dr. Collins for always showing up with that infectious positivity and top-notch care. And let’s not forget the rest of the crew who jumped in to help wrangle, hold, and record everything—because on a farm, nothing happens without a village!

We’re already daydreaming about the data coming in and can’t wait to share more updates as these calves keep growing into their big, beautiful futures. Spring is right around the corner, and with healthy herds and exciting new insights on the way, we’re feeling extra grateful.

Here’s to strong calves, smart science, and the best vet crew around! 🐮💙
